How do I retrain my dog to potty on a pad when the weather is bad?
My dog is getting old and he shouldnt get wet when it rains (where we live it can rain for full days!), but he was trained to potty outside and wont go on pads . I have tried to retrain him but still he wont go. Even use smelly liquids but nothing.
My dogs have been trained since they were puppies to do it outside but because I cannot always take them out like I used to, I decided to get them two large porch potties where they can poop and pee anytime they like.
I retrained my dogs to use the porch potty when they were 11 months old. It didn’t take them long to figure out what the porch potty is for. I thought maybe it was the grass that attracted my dogs to the porch potty or it could be the scented fire engine. Whatever it was, it worked like a charm. They use it during bad days when I cannot get up or when its raining real hard and it’s just not possible for them to go poop because I cannot take them out.
I understand you love your dog and are worried about taking him out because he’s getting old and you don’t want him getting wet, if this is the case, I suggest you provide him with a better potty alternative than dog pads. The pads may have worked for some but in your dog’s case, since it doesn’t seem to be working too well, you might as well ditch the pads and just get him something else.
