Bide Awhile display at 6th annual Ceilidh for Critters

In 1969, a group of animal lovers came together to create a private Shelter in Metro - Bide Awhile Animal Shelter. Over the years the Shelter has expanded and evolved to meet the growing needs of the community.

Bide Awhile is Metro's first "No-Kill" Shelter where lost and homeless animals can stay until a suitable home is found. They provide tender loving care, medical attention and socialization for all animals coming to the Shelter. Euthanasia is a last resort for untreatable problems only.

More than three decades later Bide Awhile takes in hundreds of cats and dozens of dogs every year. Each animal is isolated at first so they are able to assess its health. When ready, it is released into the Dog, Cat or Kitten room in the Bide Awhile house. Each of their guests has a private kennel in the room, but is free to roam and play with the other animals by day. Daily socializing with volunteers also helps the animals make an easy transition into their new homes.

All Bide Awhile guests are spayed or neutered.
